For formal occasion

arwb2008 Says: Choosing a dress for a formal event can be difficult. In fact, it can be quite difficult to choose a formal dress for an event, because you have to find a great style, fit and color. The dress also has to be appropriate for the particular event. For example, you wouldn’t wear Formal Dance Dresses to a wedding, and you don’t want to overshadow the birthday girl at a Sweet Sixteen. The point is, when you have to choose a formal dress, you have a lot of things to think about. Instructions Step 1 When shopping for a formal dress, go right to the sale racks. You can get a beautiful formal dress at a fraction of the price if you shop the sales. Why pay more when you can pay less money for the perfect dress? Step 2 When you choose a formal dress, remember that the dress choice is not just about you, it’s about the event. You’ll want to dress nicely for a wedding, Sweet Sixteen or Bar / Bat Mitzvah, but not wear a dress that is so fancy that it overshadows Sweet 16 Dresses by the birthday girl. Step 3 A good rule of thumb is to wear a long dress for a very formal event. For more casual events, you can wear Holiday Dresses or a long dress. Essentially, a less formal event gives you more flexibility, although you will still need to choose at least a somewhat formal dress to wear. Do not wear a very formal dress to a somewhat formal event - you don’t want to look overdressed. Likewise, don’t wear a casual dress to a formal event of you’ll risk looking out of place as well. Step 4 Realize what colors and styles you should not choose for a formal dress, depending on the occasion. For example, do not wear white to a wedding. Do not wear Pink Evening Dresses to a Sweet Sixteen if you think you will look fancier than the birthday girl. Basically, don’t overshadow the person who is being honored. Step 5 Choose an appropriate color when choosing a formal dress. For example, for a fancy wedding, you may want to stick to basic or understated colors. Black Evening Dresses are great to wear to weddings. For a Sweet Sixteen or less formal event, you have more freedom to choose from a wider array of dress colors. For these events, you can wear Blue Evening Dresses and other dresses in bright colors. Step 6 Think about dress style. For very formal events, like black tie events, a modest dress probably works best. The dress does not have to be too modest, but keeping your “assets” hidden is probably a good choice. Also avoid excessive glitz, like large amounts of sequins or glitter. It’s best to choose an understated style for a black tie affair. For a fun event, like a birthday party, you can go for a sexier style, but always remember that you need to wear a dress that will keep your private parts, well, private. Short or low cut dresses are fine, but you don’t want people seeing your boobs or butt when you lean over. Step 7 If the dresses are appropriate for formal events, do not be afraid to wear old prom or Bridesmaid Dresses. When you choose a formal dress for an event, don’t be afraid to choose a formal dress from your own closet. You can make an old prom dress or Pleated Evening Dresses perfectly appropriate with understated accessories and a simple hairstyle. Step 8 Wear appropriate shoes with the dress that you choose. Heels are often a good choice, but ballet flats are also sometimes a good option to go with a formal dress. Avoid boots and clunky shoes if at all possible. Step 9 When in doubt, ask questions. It’s okay to ask the person of honor if a dress will be appropriate for his or her party. The person will likely be honest with you, so go ahead and inquire. Chances are, if you’re asking, someone else is wondering too. Posted Feb 25,2010 | |
