Rules to Live By: Never Go To Bed Angry

Posted by Kathryn Lindamood (Aug 14,2009)

Marriage isn't easy. It takes a lot of work to make a marriage successful. Ask any couple who has been married for any length of time and they will agree. There are going to be days when your spouse does things you don't like. It might be something simple like forgetting to take out the trash or watching the ball game when they could have been helping you clean up. It doesn't matter how big or how small the issue is. The important thing is that you resolve it.

I've seen marriages fail due to lack of communication between both parties. I've seen couples who ignore each other and just go through the motions. I've seen simple misunderstandings turn into huge blowups because neither person was willing to compromise. I've seen all these things and have come to one conclusion: I don't want to live like that.

Never go to bed angry. That's the principal rule in our house. It's been that way from day one. No matter how many times we have gotten annoyed with each other over the course of the day we always resolve our issues before we head off to bed. We find in doing this we sleep better and wake up loving each other more than we did the day before.

I'm extremely lucky that I found a man who puts up with my crazy mood swings, silly rules about towels having to be folded a certain way, and my horrible cooking. Some days I drive him insane but he still loves me. It's not always easy and sometimes it takes some work to get through the problems, but in the end it works itself out. I know that no matter what happens everything will be okay as long as we are together and willing to make it work.
