Bridal Gown Shopping Isn't Fun Until You Find the Perfect Dress
Posted by Kathryn Lindamood (Jan 26,2010)
If every bride looked like the models in bridal magazines
life would be perfect. Dresses that look great in the catalogue would look just
as good walking down the aisle. You’d never have to worry about taking in seams
or letting them out. The most you’d have to deal with is a little bit of
hemming along the bottom to take up the length. Wouldn’t that be great?
Keep dreaming ladies! Very few of us have the bodies to make
the dresses look the same as they in the catalogue. For that reason it can take
months to find the perfect dress. It might look great on the hanger but when
you try it on you know it’s not right. Frustrations become apparent and before
you know it you’re taking it out on the sales lady. It’s not a pretty sight.
Plus sized women have it even harder. Imagine finding the
dress of your dreams and then learning they don’t make it in your size. Talk
about a blow to the self-esteem. Luckily in recent years bridal gown
manufacturers have seen fit to add extended sizes to their collections. There
are even a few designers that cater to women with curves.
Retailers like David’s Bridal have a wide range of plus
sized dresses in hundreds of different cuts and styles. If you get lucky your
local bridal store may have a few plus sized offerings. I was extremely lucky
because the small shop in my home town had one plus sized dress. It’s the only
dress I tried on and while it wasn’t what I originally envisioned it was
absolutely perfect.
Regardless of whether you are a size 4 or a size 18 it’s
going to take some time and more than likely several trips to find a dress you
like that’s within your price range. The important thing to remember is not to
get discouraged. When you put the right dress on you will know it immediately.
